Knowledge overview
How knowledge sources work, how your agent uses them to answer questions, and which source types you can add.
Knowledge is the content your agent answers from: your website, documents, notes, and ready-made answers. When a customer asks a question, your agent searches its knowledge for the most relevant parts and uses them to write its reply.
To manage knowledge, open your agent and go to Build > Knowledge.
The Add knowledge panel has Files, Website, Text, and Q&A tabs. Choose a tab to add that type of source.
Source types
| Type | Best for |
|---|---|
| Websites and URLs | Your website, help center, or blog. Find pages across a site or add one page. |
| Sitemaps | Add pages listed in your site’s sitemap. |
| File Uploads | PDFs, Word documents, and text files such as manuals and policies. |
| Text | Information that isn’t published anywhere, pasted in directly. |
| Questions and Answers | Exact answers to common questions. |
How training works
When you add a source, Chatvox reads it and prepares it for search in the background. This is called training. A source shows as Ready once it’s finished, and only then does your agent use it in answers.
If your agent has no knowledge, it answers from its instructions only.
Knowledge storage
Each plan includes a set amount of knowledge storage, shared by all sources on an agent. The Knowledge base panel shows how much you’re using. If you reach the limit, remove sources you no longer need or upgrade your plan. See Usage and Limits.
Tips for better answers
- Add the pages customers actually ask about: pricing, shipping, returns, setup guides, and FAQs.
- Skip pages with little text, such as login pages or image galleries.
- Use Q&A for answers that must be exact, such as opening hours or refund rules.
- Keep knowledge up to date by retraining when your content changes.
