Lead capture uses actions, which are available on the **Starter** plan and above.

Your agent captures leads with the [Collect Leads](/docs/actions/collect-leads) action. When the conversation calls for it, the agent shows a short form in the chat. When the visitor submits it, a lead is saved.

## Set up lead capture

1. **Add the action**

    In your agent, go to **Build** > **Actions**, select **Create action**, and choose **Collect Leads**.

2. **Choose when to ask**

    Turn on **Smart lead collection** to ask only once a visitor shows real interest, or describe your own condition.

3. **Choose the fields**

    Set which of **Name**, **Email**, and **Phone Number** are required, and add custom fields if you need more details.

## What's saved with a lead

| Field | Description |
| --- | --- |
| **Name**, **Email**, **Phone** | The details from the form. |
| **Source** | The channel the lead came from, such as the web widget. |
| **Referrer URL** | The page the visitor was on. |
| **Campaign** | The UTM parameters of the link the visitor arrived through. See [Campaign Tracking](/docs/leads-and-contacts/campaign-tracking). |
| **Date** | When the lead was captured. |
| **Lead details** | Any [custom fields](/docs/actions/collect-leads#custom-fields) you added. |

## Get notified about new leads

Add a [Slack Notification](/docs/actions/slack-notifications) action with a condition such as "When a new lead is captured", so your team can follow up quickly.

## Tips for more leads

- **Offer something in return**, such as a quote, a demo, or a follow-up from your team. Mention it in your [instructions](/docs/agents/instructions).
- **Ask only for what you need.** Fewer required fields means more completed forms.
- **Use Smart lead collection** so the agent helps first and asks later, instead of asking every visitor up front.
