title: Create Your First Agent
description: Walk through the agent setup flow step by step. Add knowledge, set the identity and appearance, then review before you publish.
---

Create a new agent from the **Agents** page. Setup has four steps, and you can change everything later in the agent's settings.

1. **Knowledge: add your website**

    Your agent learns from the pages you choose, so it can answer questions about your business. Enter your website URL, scan it, and select the pages to include. See [Add Knowledge](/docs/getting-started/add-knowledge).

    You can also select **Skip for now** and add knowledge later.

2. **Identity: name and instructions**

    - **Name**: what the agent calls itself, for example "Ava".
    - **Role**: what the agent does, for example "Customer support".
    - **Instructions**: how the agent should behave and what it should focus on. Select **Use a template** to start from an example.
    - **AI model**: the model that powers the agent. See [AI Models](/docs/agents/ai-models).
    - **Welcome message**: the first message visitors see, for example "Hi! How can I help you today?"

3. **Appearance: colors and logo**

    Upload a **Chat logo** (cropped to a square and shown as a circle), choose a **Primary color** and **Secondary color**, and set the widget **Position** on the page. The preview updates as you go.

4. **Review and publish**

    Check the agent's knowledge, identity, and appearance, and select **Edit** next to anything you want to change. Then select **Publish agent**.

:::tip
If you leave setup before publishing, Chatvox keeps your unfinished agent. The next time you create an agent you can **Continue** where you left off or **Start over**. Starting over deletes the draft and any knowledge sources added to it.
:::

:::note
If your agent has no knowledge sources, it answers from its instructions only.
:::

Publishing turns on the web widget. You can add it to your website anytime from [Deployments](/docs/getting-started/deploy-your-agent).
