  title: "Public Chat General settings"
---

Public Chat gives your agent its own full-page chat at a shareable link. It's useful when you don't have a website, or when you want to share the agent in an email, a QR code, your social profiles, or a help center.

## Turn on Public Chat

1. **Open Deployments**

    In your agent, go to **Deploy**.

2. **Turn it on**

    Switch on **Public Chat**. Select the open-chat icon next to it to view the page.

3. **Share the link**

    Open **Public Chat** settings. The **Public URL** is shown under **General settings**. Select **Open** to view it, then share the link with your customers.

The link looks like this:

```
https://my.chatvox.co/chat/<your-agent-id>
```

Turning Public Chat off makes the link stop working until you turn it back on.

## Embed the chat on a page

Show the full chat on a page of your own website, such as `example.com/chat`, instead of sending visitors to the Chatvox link.

1. **Copy the code**

    Open **Public Chat** settings. Under **General settings**, find **Embed on a page** and select **Copy code**.

2. **Paste it into your page**

    Paste the code into the page's HTML where the chat should appear. In a site builder such as WordPress, Webflow, Wix, or Shopify, use an HTML or embed block.

3. **Publish the page**

    Publish your page and open it to check the chat.

The code looks like this:

```html
<iframe src="https://my.chatvox.co/chat/<your-agent-id>" title="Chat" style="width: 100%; height: 700px; border: 0;" allow="clipboard-write"></iframe>
```

Change `height` to fit your page. The chat uses your Public Chat settings, and stops working on your page if you turn Public Chat off.

- **Conversations stay with each website.** A visitor who chatted at the Chatvox link doesn't see that conversation on your page, and the other way around.
- **Campaign tags:** UTM parameters in your page's address don't reach the chat. To track a campaign, add them to the `src` address in the code, for example `.../chat/<your-agent-id>?utm_source=newsletter`.

For a chat bubble on every page instead, use the [Web Widget](/docs/deployments/web-widget/installation).

## Additional instructions

Add instructions that apply only to Public Chat. They're added after the agent's main [instructions](/docs/agents/instructions), which stay active.

Public Chat doesn't know who your visitors are. To link a conversation to a known customer, see [Customer Identification](/docs/leads-and-contacts/customer-identification).
